Meet the team
Before starting Cornwall Super Homes Ltd, Tony spent nine years in the RAF and seven years as a Royal Mail manager. The journey to where we are today began with a passion for renewables and a desire to work for himself. In order to make his dream a reality Tony retrained as an electrician, gained on-the-job experience working on building sites, wind turbines and domestic electrics then started his own electrical business back in 2009. He then became accredited for Solar PV installations in December 2010 and added Cornwall Smart Homes to the portfolio in 2012.
Testament to his drive and success, Tony now employs 16 staff, has an award-winning business both regionally and nationally and is expanding rapidly. Alongside his busy working life Tony has actively pursued his passion for renewables within the community. He sits on the advisory panel for Business Leaders for Low Carbon, is an advisor to the Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust and regularly delivers renewable technology presentations to educational establishments, businesses and at a variety of events. In his spare time, Tony enjoys surfing, reading and spending time with his family
“I founded Cornwall Solar Panels because I’ve always been passionate about doing my bit for the planet. While I was a manager with Royal Mail I wanted to find a business to start. It had to be something I could get behind and when I thought of Solar Panels it also ticked my “green ethos” box. That was in 2006, I started making plans, retrained as an electrician then left Royal Mail in 2008, after gaining experience in the trade while studying Solar PV in my spare time. I passed my further qualifications to become fully qualified and then accredited in 2010. Since then, Cornwall Solar Panels has gone from strength to strength and we now have a great team delivering a service I am very proud of.
Shelley Sampson is our Solar PV System Designer. Shelley works closely with the Site Surveyors to ensure system designs are suitable customers properties and individual requirements. She also interacts with the Install team to ensure what we are designing is achievable. Having many years of business and customer service experience means Shelley hand turn her hand at all sorts of roles within the team. When not at work, Shelley enjoys spending time with her family, making cakes and running for charity.
Mat Green is one of our Site Surveyors. He joined us in October 2011, bringing with him a serious background in mechanical and electrical engineering. Mat has a wealth of knowledge on Solar PV and Solar Thermal systems and loves the technical aspects of surveying and chatting to people interested in renewable technologies. When not at work, you’ll find Mat hanging off a rock face somewhere on a Cornish sea cliff or scuba diving on a sunken wreck. Be sure to ask Mat about his cannon balls.
Tim Drake Electrician joined us in May 2012. He’s an intelligent, creative, outgoing and well-travelled guy, who’s been lucky enough to see Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, California, The Caribbean, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark and Germany. He loves the ocean and surfing like most of us here, though he also has a passion for music, art and photography. He enjoys going to gigs and festivals and generally embraces everything that life has going for it. What many people don’t know about Tim is that he once acted in a Bollywood film called Solider.
Maren Bennette, Site Surveyor. Maren came to CSP as a customer, after getting several quotes he chose CSP for his installation then, as he puts it “I liked the company so much I came to work for them”. Maren thought he was a nightmare customer as he’d done so much research. Tony said it was great to find someone who could chat about solar in such depth. Having a background in technical sales, Maren offered his services as a site surveyor and now enjoys his time meeting people and helping them choose their Solar PV systems. Maren owns a woodburner and a boat so in his spare time he’s either pottering around in his Land Rover looking for fuel for his woodburner or sailing on the high seas.
Chris Leslie Accounts & Admin. Chris’s eye for detail means she’s a great person to oversee all the admin (and there’s a lot of admin!) at CSP. From keeping the accounts up to date to organising registrations with Western Power Distribution, if you give the job to Chris you know it’s going to get done well. When she’s not at work, Chris is in her garden, and I suppose having green fingers is a good thing in the renewable industry.
Kyle Bacon, Lead Roofer. Known as “Eggy” to the team, Kyle has impressed everyone with his ability to pick new skills up quickly. Taking on many tasks outside the normal call of duty and delivering great results shows that Eggy is certainly not half baked. Having run his own business and travelled a bit, it’s not surprising that we think Eggy is one to watch for the future. He’s also got a young family and loves spending time being Dad.
